Default 08 2.3 transmission swap to 07 2.0

Hi everyone I’m just curious if my 08 2.3l transmission Will bolt up to a 07 2.0 engine? I haven’t done to much research figured I’d go straight to the people who know for sure. I blew an engine in my 08 2 years ago and have had it sitting in my garage ever since, and recently came across an 07 2.0l that won’t go into first. They are selling it for very cheap and if my trans which has no issues from my 08 will bolt up to the 07 I’m just gonna flip it real quick. That is as long as the 2.3 trans will actually bolt up to the 2.0.. would love to get some answers ASAP. Thanks if it was already covered I’m sorry!

I am replacing the 2006 Mazda 3i 2.0L 4 speed automatic transmission (FN4A-EL) failed at 185k miles with a 2007 Mazda 3s 2.3L 5 speed automatic transmission (FS5A-EL) with unknown miles, obtained at a local wrecking yard for $500, removed. Looking at the silicone gasket material, it appears to be rebuilt.

Now in final testing mode..

I was told at the the junkyard, its a direct bolt on conversion, and would only need to swap out the flex plate, wiring harness and ECU . WRONG...

1. No need to change the flex plate. keep the 2.0 one on.
2. Install the (2.3L) larger torque converter on the tranny while inverted vertically on the shop floor. You will likely not be able to line up while trying to mount to engine.
3. Keep the same (2.0L) wiring harness, ECU and TCU.
4. The axle splines are larger on the 2.3 transmission. (26mm on the 2.0L, 28mm on the 2.3L) You will need a new drivers axle, and an intermediate shaft, part #GG47-25-700D . The Passenger side axle fits the new mid-axle, so no need to replace that axle, unless needed.

So far after 50 miles of testing, no warning lights and works fine.

One optional item is still not resolved: There is a single pin plug on the front of the tranny, that is not supported on the 2.0L wiring harness. I assume it is an overdrive solenoid, but not sure. If its a managed connection from the 2.3L TCU, or just an 12v ON-OFF via a toggle switch button, or a sensor of some kind. Finding nothing on this. A little reluctant to just put power to it. Anyone know?

The 2.3L tranny is heavier duty, better made, coupled with the longer life 2.0L engine, I am expecting a better match, for 5 speed fuel economy, on these "end of life" vehicles.
Time will tell, I guess.
