07 windsheild replacement
Hey gang. I read more then I post in here but just wanted to vent. I got my GT 4d in Jan of 07 and about march had a rock hit and chip the windehield. $hit. Ok I had it filled in to prevent the chip from cracking and that worked. I wasnt crazy about it cause I knew it was there but I am still happy. So a couple of weeks ago I am driving home on the interstaein a massive downpour and this A-hole in a truck almost hits me to get in front of me. Well that was bad but then from his back tireis projected a boulder that hits my windshield on the driver side edge and sends a crack half way accross the windshield right through my line of sight. Now I am really pissed. So I start calling around to get it replaced. I am looking at $600.00 OMG. I have the windshield whiper sensor so that doubles the cost of the windshild. Trying not to make another claim on my insurance (my son helped ues up too many claims). Uhhh I still have the lovely ever growing crack, well its kind of like a bifocal windshield now. LOL.
I amost feel better now.

I also had my windshield cracked just two months into owning my new M3. What pi$$ez me off most about it is, Isaw the 18 wheeler in front of me. I intentionally drove one lane over to the left, and stayed a good 5 car lengths back - and still had a rock fly up and crack my shield. It was if the stonehad eyes. I filledthe damagein with a crack repair kit bought at an auto parts store, which has to date contained the crack to about 8 inches. Good news is it is down low on the passenger side.
I don't know if, like many other things in the world, the durability of windshields has fallen in recent years due to penny pinching by the manufacturers. My early 90s Toyota got hit in the shield by at least 20 rocks, and never cracked (there were some little pits), but my new M3 gets hit by one rock, and can't handle it? You'd think they could understand the real world and make them a little tougher.
FYI - In some states,a car won't pass inspection if the crack is too big, or deemed to be in your line of vision.

Comprehensive deductable is $500. Having teenage sons drive is a killer on insurance. Ihave one place that will give me a dis**** on deductable but the problem is I want to avoid making another claim. Too many claims in a short period of time can get you dropped. Life is a blast sometimes. But the bright side is I am still driving a Mazda 3
I thought claims against comprehensive could not raise the premium. I replaced 4 windshields on my Ford Crew Cab in a 2 year period, and never saw a change in premiums - talk about a "weak" windshield!
As sslature stated, you can usually bargain with glass shops to pay most or all of your deductible.
