Mazda 3 Drivetrain?!?!?
Hey guys,, i'm having kind of a problem here,,, i'd like to change my mazda 3 GT 2007 from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive,,, anyone has an idea on what to perform first to make this work ??
I realize your a noob here, but you're making this too easy. ('Hope you can take a joke?)
How-a-bout a lobotomy??

Man!! That's a dream a lot of us have, but it's gonna be a tremendous amount of work and money. If you are not a completely talented and skilled technician w/a lot of tools, contacts and engineering under his belt, not to mention a big bank acount, I wouldn't even try.
'Course, you could do the ole' 4WD trick and basically mount a 3 body onto a full frame, like a Jeep? Will still require most of the above, but less hassle than trying to make a 3's drivetrain drive the rear wheels.
Or, find a wrecked MS6 and start there.
In general, drivers I have known have pined for RWD because they feel it offers handling superiority - or at least it did in the early days for FWD, before the engineers got it together.
I would not want my m3 to be anything but FWD, the handling is superb - possibly the car's biggest strength - never any issues with feeling the car is not well controlled during acceleration, on wet roads, etc.
To turn and remount the engine, install a driveline and gearing to the rear tires ... I think your talking about the impossible, unless your willing to spend as much as the car cost you in the first place. And even then, who's to say what it would do to your suspension, weight distribution and handling dynamics.
I've driven a Subaru AWD, and a Audi AWD, they handle fabulously well, its as if they are biting into the road.
