Default "thud" noise from drivers side...

my car makes a thudding noise whenever I drive it. When driving slow youcan hear it more than feel it. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side. When the car reaches cruising around 55+mph the front end feels like it is shaking. The tires look fine. Any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks

Do you have AM wheels/tires on the car? Could they be the wrong wheels?
You also don"t say what year, but if you have lots of mileage it could be time for some new struts and/or upper strut bearings.
For a short term fix, you might just want to make sure the upper strut mounts are tight, but be careful not to over-tighten them either.

Also, does the car seem to handle normally or wallow in turns, etc...?

It'sa 2004 model w/ just over 69000 miles,it handles fine in turns. The wheels are stock however I bought it used and don't know how long the tires have been on it, they look new.

The 03"s (Europe/Asia/Australia) and 04"s (like mine) had smaller front sway bar links than newer models. If that turns out to be the problem, they can be changed out for the newer, stronger ones.
These are the AM version (Racing Beat)that I did to mine. http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda...ml?id=aYiIjVo9They"re a bit of a pain, but not that bad to do. You do need to drill out the stock bar and mount to the strut housing, but the kit comes w/the correct bit and line-up sleeve.
But w/nearly 70k on the clock it could be a strut going bad, or the bearing as I said before.
