Default Rear strut mount story if anyone is interested.

Just thought id share my ordeal, might be useful for someone else.

Mazda 2 DE 2008 1.3 TS in UK. 62000 miles

Just had the rear top shock absorber mount completely snap/disintegrate going over a speedbump which left the shock absorber wriggling about at the top.
It is held in place by one big 17mm bolt through the bottom of the shock, and two 12 mm bolts at the top that secure the mount to the chassis. There is also a 10mm nut that holds the strut into the mount.

The big 17mm was a nightmare to remove for me it was incredibly tight and rusty even with cleaning and loads of WD40, took me about an hour to get it out and had to use a breaker bar to get the leverage.
The two 12mm bolts at the top in the wheel arch were practically rust welded in and i ended up stripping the heads, even with halfords advanced tools and sockets.
The 10mm strut nut was easy, no problems

Unfortunately in the end i had to drill out the two 12mm bolts and grind off the threaded spot welded nut that you can access from the boot behind the plastics.

I was left with two messy-ish holes with no thread. I used bigger nuts and bolts to re secure the strut mount, which has worked absolutely fine.

Basically this job should have took half an hour to do, but it took me two days due to the rusty stripped bolts.

I reckon an impact gun would have whipped the bolts out before i rounded them,or maybe the rounded bolt removal sockets. but i don't have either of those tools.

So just a head up incase this happens to you, especially in the uk with the weather. The mount is priced at around £15 - £25 depending where you go, same mount thats on a fiesta MK7 i think.
