Hi all, I am new here. My girlfriend has a 2019 Mazda2 (AUS) and it has a bad brake squeak from the rear. I have already removed the drums and cleaned out all of the shoe dust but it has returned less than 2 weeks later. Is there a more permanent fix? I know it’s an enclosed system so it will build up but 2 weeks is crazy. Cheers
Noises like the ones being described means there is a negative underling reason and should be looked at carefully before simply canceling out the noise with a quick fix remedy.. just saying...they are brakes!
Hi JL1996,
As Callisto has said. This is the brake system, which is a critical item. Is the slave cylinder leaking ? Or seized, Or sticking? Detailed inspection is required. replacing the brake shoes would rule out a problem with these, which would seem the easiest job. Contamination of these from brake fluid leaking from a slave cylinder maybe could be the reason. Or maybe just they are worn out.
Also, some car disc brake pads are designed to squeal when they are worn down to near there wear limit. It may be an idea to check those as well.
For A Mazda 2 DJ the wear limits. New disc brake pads that I've seen on cars normally have somewhere near 10mm thickness of material.

From my experience with the Mazda 2's, if they aren't adjusted perfectly they can squeak. Make sure the cable is wound back before adjusting the shoes.
There are NO brake pads designed to "squeal" but what some may be refereeing to is the wear tab that will sound like metal to metal which is meant to gain atttention to the driver to have the brakes checked and the pads serviced.
