Hi all, I have an 04 Mazda2 DY (1.5) with a check engine light. Engine seems to run fine but is down on power. General internet searching leads me to believe that it may be the oxygen sensor (engine code is ZY-VE)

I have already:
1. cleaned the maf sensor and throttle body
2. attempted to get codes using OBD2 but was unsuccessful as the OBD reader (a fancy bosch unit, had no option for the 02-07 DY model. Im not entirely sure why but I do know that Australian laws did not require OBD2 like US laws did. (it does have a connector and we managed to clear the light, but it came back the next day)

So what I'm looking for:
1. wiring diagrams or pinouts for the 04 m2 so I can test sensors with a multimeter
2. Any idea how to get the obd2 working
3. Common causes for check engine lights on this model of car

I realise that not many people here may have experience with this particular car as it seems to be an au only bastard child of the 121 and modern mazda 2, however any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Take it to supercheap for code scan.

Australia had the DW Demio or 121, then DY Mazda 2 then DE Mazda 2 & now DJ Mazda 2

 

Hi grim, as I said in the post, I already went to supercheap for the scan but the tool had no option for the DY, the guy had no idea why it wasnt there.

Even the cheapest scan tools will read codes without validating the make & model.

I question the ability & knowledge of supercheap employee's.

I would suggest going to a local garage.

Alright, an update:
I found someone with a different obd2 tool which successfully scanned the car (hooray)
It returned with an error code for O2 sensor heater circuit.
I found the sensor and tested the two black wires (which should be the two ends of the heater circuit) and it returned 6 ohms. After putting the car back together the check engine light went off then came back on after some time.
I tried to find a post cat O2 sensor in case that was the one throwing the code but could not see one
So my new questions:
1. Should this car have a second O2 sensor?
2. does 6ohms mean the heater circuit is working? (I would have thought that it did since there is a connection)
3. If the sensor is functional does that mean there is a problem with the wiring?
