Default Thinking of buying '02 Tribute

Hello,
I'm thinking of picking up an '02 Tribute and just wanted to get some feedback on what common issues or problems these vehicles have to look out for. Also, looks like gas mileage is around 22-24 mpg highway (?). Would this be typical for the AWD or 2wd models?

Thanks for any input.

I'm on my second 02 Trib; first one was good until it got totaled in an accident. Picked up the second one about a year ago and its now got 172k miles on it. Common issues are leaky oil pan gaskets, brake booster going bad due to leaky master cylinder caps, instrument panel bulbs burning out. Factory radio display will go bad and I had to replace the upper intake gaskets but all of these issues are fairly easy repairs. Both of mine run well and have had no major problems. Change the fluids on schedule as well as spark plugs and you should be fine.

I have had my Tribute LX V6 now for going on it 9 year and the only issue I have had was the rfecall for the rack & Pinion steering replacement other than that it has not been into the shop. You are dead nuts on with the gas milage. On long trips if you are not in a rush drive 60 and you will get better millage like 26/27. If you are towing the millage drops as well down to the 18 / 20 MPG depending on what it is. Great vehicel would purchase again as they are now getting better gas millage.
