Recall on '05 Tributes
I recently got a letter from Mazda because my Tribute can't absorb enough energy in the front panel area. I got it checked and all they had to do is drill another hole in the metal framing in the front panel area. So, have no fear if you get a letter...it's easy to fix, if they have to even do it. It only affects the earlier ones made. (I got my Tribute in Febuary.) The bummer part is they only offer those compact cars from the rental agency. You own an SUV but they give you a car...I don't get it...
The new recall 4006D actually does not involve drilling a hole in the metal framing aloha_56 but drilling out 2 5 1/2" deep holes in a small piece of foam in the front corners of the headliner. You are right that it is not a big issue but only a nonconformation to Federal Safety Standards. The jist of my understanding is that if you are in an accident and bonk your head on the headliner area then it will be too hard and will not give enough causing you injury. Is a fairly quick procedure but give an hour or so for it to be completed.
