Most factory stereos don't have a earth wire, instead they earth thru the steel housing.

Also, Tonyk77, does having you lights on have any effect on your issue?

 

nope, the only issue i have is radio goes staticy ONLY when its a phone being charged, ipod or gps and the radio is fine.

 

I finally solved the static/whine issue. I bought a ground loop isolator which i installed between my source and car stereo input. No more static or noise. I now have clean music .
