I read in a forum that someone suggested vinyl tape wrapped around the striker of the rear hatch if your squeaking is coming from there. I tried a couple or wraps around the striker and my squeaking has gone away.

I have a 2005 Tribute with 19,000 miles. I have the same noise driving me crazy. I can tell its coming from the back hatch. I'm going to try the grease as recommended. Has anyone had the loud valve noise? I've taken it to the dealership once and they said they it was a recall and they adjusted them. One the way home (as they were closing), the valves starting claddering loud again. Since I don't live near a dealership, its hard to take it in. Any suggestions?

You guys wait until it hits 50,000 and the warranty runs out. The "top of the line" stereo system that it was supposed to have crapped out at 53,000.(broken circuit board) I tried to get Mazda to do a good will coverage on it and they said no. So it cost me 400 bucks for a new stereo system at Best Buy. They squeeking will only get worse. Everyone of my doors does it and yes the speed sensitive steering is getting louder every day. And the hatch too. I have owned Mazda's since I bought the first one new in 1988. Clearly, the quality is not what it used to be. Anderson Mazda Dealer in Lincoln Nebraska was of no help as well. When I am done with this vehicle, I'll go back to Dodges

Anyone ever have any trouble w/their strut mounts?

I have MAJOR creaking when I turn the wheel at slow speeds. I don't believe its the powersteering, as it only occurs at certain angles when the suspension is cycling. I am replacing all the struts [80K miles], and assuming I should pick up new strut mounts from Mazda? Anyone go thru this yet?

Thanks Rich.

Mechguy79's solution worked. This noise has been driving me nut. I tried all manner of lubricating, to no avail. I taped the post for the rear door latch - so far, no noise.

Well it has been 2 years since this message and my squeaks have not come back. I even have the same piece of tape on the post.

Default Bad motor mounts?

I just replaced the mounts on my '05 (92K). The creaking and groaning was on initial acceleration and you could see and hear the motor rocking.

Any car with 4+ years on it is going to start experiencing bushing degradation, body, engine, suspension, etc.

No one mentioned spray the weather seals on the hatch with silicone spray (unless I missed it). That got rid of the squeaks for me. No squeaks or rattles of any kind right now. (2004, 60K miles)

New Mazda Tribute owner and the creaking noise drove me nuts for a week. Just bought this sweet 06 tribute with 65k miles and it was a groaning creaking symphony in the back end. Found the forum and tried a couple things on my own to only end up duct taping the groove around the center latch post for the hatch and it cured the problem instantly. Nice solid sounding and feeling little SUV too with that fixed! First tank 25.7mpg. I drive all over N Colorado and put on 30k or more annually so hope the winter conditions are not a problem with FWD only. Anyone have experience with snow tires, studded or not? Hijacking thread not intended
