2008 Mazda tribute keyless remote stopped working.

I bought the SUV from a Ford deal and the salesman didn't know much about the remotes. One remote had a dead battery and the other wasn't much better.

I bought new batteries, this didn't fix the problems, when the battery is in after about 30 minutes the remote stops working and the horn starts honking and the lights start flashing. The only way to stop it is to go out and put the key in and turn the ignition on. I cannot leave the battery in so I have to use the key to unlock the door and then the lock/unlock button.

Do I need to reprogram or take it to a Mazda dealer to get this corrected?

If reprogramming, how do I reprogram the keyless remote without cause any issues with key starting the SUV.

 

I had bad key. What fixed mine was the small metal tangs on side of battery compartment had gotten bent in and not making contact with the battery all the time. Just remove battery and bend these tangs out so they fit tightly against the battery.
