Default 2006 Mazda Tribute 2.3L engine

I have an opportunity to purchase a used 2006 Mazda Tribute with the 2.3L, 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed manual transmission. The Tribute has about 25K miles on it.

I took it for a test drive and it seemed peppy enough, although the test drive was the standard right hand turns withno hills.

I'm interested in your experience with the 2.3L. Does it have sufficient power with the 5speed manual transmission? Any experiences in hilly or mountainous terrain? I like the fuel economy the 4 cyl has, but am undecided if I should pursue the version with the larver V6 engine.
