2005 Tribute With a 2.3L VVT Engine
My dad just bought a 05 Tribute that the previous owner said that her brother replaced the engine on. It has a check engine light on and he brought it to me to look at. P0340 Cam senor Circuit A fault code. Upon inspection, I found that the engine has the VVT solenoid at the front of the engine that is not hooked up and has the incorrect coils installed in the engine. From my findings, the original engine was a 2.3l non-VVT and it now has a VVT engine in it. The car runs and drives fine, minus the check engine light. Will it hurt anything to run this engine with the VVT disabled? The coils appear to be the original Tribute coils, would the correct coils from a VVT engine work? I have a couple pictures of the engine showing the solenoid and coils and the date code on the back side of the engine block. Do not know the history of the vehicle and why the engine was replaced but the odo show only 43k. Thank you.
