Default 2004 Tribute - Fuel tank Pressure Sensor

Get an occasional "Check Engine" light. Code says problem with Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor. Dealer part about $125 and they are more than willing to replace for about $400.
1- Is this part a neccessity to replace?
2- Where is it and how easy/hard is it to replace? I did find the double top secret compartment door under the rear passenger seat to replace the fuel pump (pretty good engineering I think). Is the FPS in this compartment?
3- Is it possible that I may have a fuel cap problem that may be triggering false code?

For all you dealership guys out there, yes I am trying avoid spending $400. There I said it.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
