2003 Tribute Chronic Trans Prob
Hi!
I bought a used 2003 Tribute 183k 2WD-4WD with a post production towing package. The 2001 Tribute 2WD I'd had was a DREAM, so I felt confident in buying another Tribute even though it had high miles.
The prior owner said he'd put in a "new" tranny 4 years prior (it's really a rebuild, but whatever). When I'd had it approximately 6 months, the transmission went out. I had it rebuilt. It's been about 4 to 5 months and I just had to have it rebuilt again (under warrantee).
My Transmission guy showed me the damaged parts that he replaced this time. It looked like gears that had been stripped. He told me that he doesn't understand why that happened. That normally it is due to a bearing issue, but that wasn't the case in this one.
That was about a week ago. It has already made several irregular moves into 2nd gear since then.
What is this problem? Is it the car itself? The Transmission, or a bad transmission guy?
Thanks!

Two rebuild failures point to the shop not replacing the right parts or not having the right skills TBH. CD4E trans aren't the strongest in the Tribute application but if the original trans lasted 11yrs, then that rebuild lasted nearly 5yrs, then your guy's work has lasted 5mths and 1 week...that speaks for itself IMHO.
"Irregular" moves into 2nd gear just sound like a trans problem again, nothing to suggest any different - I'd cut my losses and move to a new trans shop.
