my 02 es v6 awd trans died.it had a yl8p-fb and my mechanic put in a used 01 2l8p-fa trans.are they compatable? however it does not work. doesnt event try to engage or change rpm. also gear selector doesnt encirce the D and first gear . any connection. please

 

Well what vehicle was the "new" trans from - another Tribute? Assuming the mechanic remembered to fill the trans with oil to the correct level I'm surprised it doesn't work at all but it may be confused by the gear position sensor not working - which is possible if the gear indicator isn't indicating D if I read you correctly...

 

it was from a '01 tribute the guy that i bought the trans from said it was fine.
when i move gear indicator to D nothing happens. when i put it in reverse the reversse lights do light up.
