Default 2001 Mazda tribute lx v6 removing differential

Having issues with extremely loud noise from my rear tires despite having brand new all around. Took it to my mechanic for new cv axels and was told that the transfer case and rear drive shaft have been previously removed so I could remove the differential and cv axels (which were all in bad shape) with no safety issues. I have been everywhere online for the past 8 hours straight and can't seem to find any information either way. Can anyone confirm his suggestion??

You would need to split your rear axles as the CV splines support the rear wheel bearings from collapsing.
