Default RX-8 Turbo

Has anyone heard if there will be an RX-8 Turbo in the future? Also, why is the RENESIS engine not very fuel efficient?

no clue on a trubo model but the RENESIS is fuel ineffecient because it is a rotary.

See how it's constantly spinning? it's also constantly adding fuel as it is revolutionary *** apossed to a piston engine's "add fuel, stop, ignight, add fuel, stop, ignight etc." this one is always adding fuel to keep up the spinning motion. Hence the name rotary it all rotates. now there are bettter animarions out there but this is the best I could find. It may be inefficient for taking fuel but it has huige benefites by small weight, high power, and free revving (easier to spin somehting fast around an axis when it's already spinning where on pistons it's hard to maintain the updown vibrating inertia)

ALSO HERE IS HOW IT's BEEN IMPROVED OVER STANDARD ROTARY:
In addition to more stable combustion afforded by the side exhaust ports, as well as improved breathing efficiency, Renesis also shows a significant gain in fuel-efficiency through the use of the following new technologies.

Newly Designed Seals: Renesis employs a new cut-off seal located between the rotor’s dual oil seals and side seal. This sealing arrangement eliminates blow-by between intake and exhaust ports and prevents carry-over of exhaust gas to the next intake cycle. Side seals are a new keystone-type with wedge-shaped section. Exhaust gas build-up against the side seal can easily cause carbonisation, but with the wedge-shaped or cuneiform side seal, the seal shape is optimised to remove carbon. The shape is also more congruent to its opposed frictional surface, achieving much better sealing proficiency.

Jet Air-Fuel Mixing System: This system is installed in intake ports to promote spray, atomisation and mixing of air and fuel. The system emits a jet of air from a constricted tube in the intake port that effectively speeds the flow of fuel over the intake port walls and boosts atomisation of fuel particles adhering to the walls. The lower end of the intake port is also shape-optimised to induce transport of atomised fuel along the air stream towards the spark plug.

Micro-Electrode Spark Plugs: The last technology in the aid of fuel economy for the Renesis engine is the micro-electrode spark plug. This spark plug uses a small side electrode and thick gauge central electrode with an extremely fine tip promoting a stable ignition of lean air-fuel mixtures. Also, by maintaining a lower temperature for side and central electrodes, the plug achieves high heat-resistance. The tip of the central electrode, which was previously of platinum, is now made of longer-lasting iridium.

Thank you for the info. I appreciate it. I test drove a 2006 RX-8 six speed a couple days ago and thought it was a great car. I've been comparing the RX-8 to other cars to determine which one I should purchase. I am however not too crazy about the RX-8's small gas tank, not too great fuel economy, and having to check the oil every other fuel up. These are just a few things to consider before I make up my mind.

Well good luck with that. If you do decide to go with the Rx-8 it will be very injoyable and as an owner of an Rx-7 I have to say you feel great when you drive a rotary powered car. Not just from it's ability to rev freely, or sound good, or maintain 50-50 weight distribution, but knowing you're different and that those around you are too common and not as unique. The Rx-8 is a great car as I've driven one. If th eRx-8 Shinka edition is an option, you can't go wrong and it'll be one of the nicest sport coupes for the money you could get.

Verbo, if those things are what is concerning you, you might not be looking for a sports car.

greddy now has a full bolt on turbokit for the rx-8, so even if they dont come out with a factory kit you could buy one.

Hey,

Do any of you know where I can get a 4Rotor engine. I called Mazda and spending $4000 on an engine is my last choice. I want a 4Rotor for my 04 RX8 and take the 2rotor and put it on a bike chassis i have in my garage or in my dads 96 protege. If you know where i can get one, please let me know. Thanks. I wouldn't put in a Greddy Turbo. I would go online and search for tuning companies in california, they ship parts directly from Japan. There is no limit in power that can be produced by these engines. I put a 3 rotor in my 93 rx7 and i got 762 at the wheels and 412.5 torque. And thats with the rx7's stock twin turbos. I plan on putting in a Turbo but an American Company Turbo is on the bottom of my list. If you plan on tuning any rotory motor, do it right, you might have to spend more money, but believe me its worth it. They are untouchable if done right.
