So I am considering buying a used RX-8, but I've been reading all of the reviews on engine replacement after 30k miles and constant engine flooding. I understand how to avoid flooding the engine by letting it warm up before shutting it off, but is there any way to avoid having the engine break down on you constantly? I've heard such things as using 5w-30 oil as opposed to the recommended 5w-20, but will that really protect me from having to replace the engine every few years? I really like this car, but can't afford engine replacement. Thanks for any help!
