Default Another If a Rx-8 is right for me

Hi, I am new to the forum and i did a good amount of research between a Mazda Rx-8, A Mustang GT/CS, Honda S2000, and the 350Z.

Since i need a Four seater the S2000 and 350Z is out of the question. The mustang is what i would get but, everyone has a mustang. (though not in the city) I have heard though many forums about the problems with the Rx-8 and i am worried that I'll probably get those same problems if i buy an Rx-8. I will most likely be driving in the city meaning there's going to be alot of stop and go traffic. I would like peoples opinion on the Rx-8's Problems. I will most likely be getting a Used Rx-8 hopfully under 20000 miles.

thanks!

As soon as you said stop and go driving, I think you've not much choice in the matter. Stop and go traffic sucks (trust me I know) with a regular engine, but the rotary does even worse. I don't think you should bother with the RX-8 unless you want to get 13 MPG...

If you need 4 seats (I'm assuming for your family), why not look into the Mazda 6? It's not RWD like the RX-8, but it's probably the best handling sedan in its class. Practicality, and a bit of fun when you want it.

As for the Mustang? Same thing on gas, but in its case because it's a huge V8 (What's it up to now, 4.6L?)....unless you mean the base Mustang. And who wants to buy a V6 Mustang? That'd be pointless.

I have to agree w/VB... ^ ^^.
You really have chosen kind of a wide variety of cars to choose from though. Most don't have a lot in common w/each other.
The 8 gets bad mileage, as does/will a Mustang. Neither car is very frugal.Plus the 8's power really is in the mid-upper power band, as is theS2000. No torque to speak of from idle w/either of these two monsters.

If a Mazda is what you're after look into a 3 or a 6. Probably your best choices based on what you've told us.

the 3's and 6's are quite nice too i didn't think so at first til i saw a couple of them done up with wheels and lowered and things. You can make them just as nice as any other car. I agree with them you should definately look into it. with family i'm sure that money is very valuable and i'm sure you'd rather use it for something better then putting it into your car for gas all the time.

no i have no family, just a college student in NYC. So there is a ton of stop and go traffic. I dont mind the 13 MPG because my "family car" is a QX56 and that is pushing a 5.6 L V8 engine thats getting me (avg 9.4 MPG) and it needs 93 Oct. Gas so average fill tops around 100. If i do get the car i would be doing alot more road trips to virginia. And probably just a weekend car. does that change things?

^ You live here and you drive a QX56? You're insane.

I still say that an RX-8 would be wasted, especially in this city. A 6 or 3 would be better all-around choices.
