Default 2004/2005/2006 rx-8 comparison

rx-8 has always been my dream car. I'm unable to convince myself to get a brand new 2008 Honda Accord coupe for around 22K on road.I read extensively about the problems with rx-8, both on this forum and elsewhere, but would still like to take a chance. I test drove a few rx-8's and I simply love it! (but not enough to pay 29K - for a brand new Touring).

I'm comparing 2004, 2005 and 2006 used rx-8's. All have milage less than 30K (This is some superficial limit I have set for a used car). My question is - How different the engines are of the years that I have mentioned, in terms of reliability? Did Mazda put any fixes over the years in the engine to avoid problems reported? Most of the problems I have read about rx-8 are in 2004 auto models. Also I'd like to know the max life of the engine (interms of miles) of the latest rx-8, given that one maintains the car well.

I have heard that a 20K miles rx-8 engine has more wear and tear than a 20K miles normal engine (I4 or V6), so the normal rules dont apply to rx-8's.

Looking forward to your expert opinion.

Thanks,
Rahul

I don't know how long it will last but it should do 80,000 an still be driveable. I have an 08 and Since 06 new features to the intakeand the 6 port automatic is way better than 04,05 first and second year production always have problems.
