YO, ive already posted sayin i think its flooded, but now ive heard all my signs have nothing to do with flooding...my 87 gxl wont start, like absolutly nothing. what happend was one day i came home to grab a bite to eat and when i left my buddies, it didnt turn over very fats, there was a short pause befor it turned. i stopped in munched, and when i was leavin for work i went out to start my car and nothing, abosolutly nothing. i had the day off today so i wippexd out the test light, jacked it up and searched. i found...all my fuses are fine, i have power goin to everything,so it really doesnt make much sence. i thought meaby my starter could be pouched, i have power to it but i cant find the power out. well i think thats enough blabbering about dick all, all im pretty much sayin is HELP! casue im sure im not the only 7 owner who has had this problom... thanx alot...peace!

does it crank and just not fire up? if so it could be flooded.

if not then I'd go to the battery or starter

It sounds like he is saying it would not crank over at all. There are two wires that run to your starter isl_cruiser. One is a very large diameter or gauge wire similar to a battery cable. It is in fact a battery cable and should have 12 volts all of the time. Other end of this large wire connects directly to positive battery post. The other wire down at the starter is much smaller in diameter. Smaller than a pencil. Should be black with white or yellow stripe. This wire comes from your ignition switch and should get power only when key is turned to "start" position. If both of these checks are ok and your battery is not dead then good chance either your starter has failed or engine is stuck or siezed and starter is unable to turn the engine over. You should be able to easily turn the engine over by hand, clockwise as viewed from standing at the front of the car.

i have power through the fat onebut i cant seem to get it through the small one, do i have to have someone turning my key whilke i do it?

Yes you will need someone to turn the key to start when checking for power at the smaller wire. Should have power to the smaller wire ONLY when key is turned to crank position.

a few days ago i went out and tried to start it, and y fluke of chances it did haha...but when i drove it to teh store to get smokes i got back out and it wouldnt start. some guy that was standing there told me to hit my starter with a rock a few times and it would be all good so i tried and sure enough it was fine...so i guess it turned out to be my starter i replaced it (weird looking starter) easy job and now shes mint, thanx for the help guys have a good one
