Welcome to the Forum.

Question 1: Have you checked on the coolant level?

Question 2: Is there any white smoke coming from the exhaust?

Check on those thing & let us know.

Sheldon.

It may have an air pocket in the cooling system.

How would you bleed the system, Sheldon?
In my wife's Saturn it's just a matter of waiting for the thermostat to open and pumping (squeeze and release) the top rad hose. Would that work on a 7 also?

*edit* Just thought of this, but since you said the car was sitting: Could it be that some gunk floating around the cooling system got on and around the sending unit causing a false trigger/alarm?

i am thinking that the radiator might be clogged up from sitting so long. the second gens, i know, have a little screw that comes out of the upper radiator hose to help bleed out air, but i am not sure about the third gens.

It is really hard to properly bleed a 3rd gen cooling system if an air pocket is in there somewhere. I'll have to recheck my notes.

I really didn't know what to tell him. General guesses. The best I could come up with.
