You have an unhappy power wire that is somehow making contact with a ground.

Can you isolate where the smoke and flame are comming from and when does it make its appearance (ie, when the key is turned on?, when the battery is connected?, when Neil Diamond is on the radio....)

If you can isolate what wire is getting hot then you can trace where it goes and repair or replace that circuit.

It may be helpful to have a friend duplicate the smoke and fire routine while you look for its source. If the wire is getting hot enough to somke it should be easy enough to find it by touch. You will know when you have found it and as soon as you do have your friend stop duplicating the smoke and fire trick. Then remove the electrical tape or convalute that is covering the wire harness until you find your short to ground.

Good luck and may the force be with you..........................

Also, do you have any other types of lights wired in on your parking lights or so? That would also cause it to go through switches & harnesses.
