Amplifier location

I just got a 1988 rx7 and am looking for the location of the factory amp. There is an amp wire in the trunk but no amp. It could be missing but want to confirm.
Can anyone help?

If the radio came equipped with an amp, it would be dead without it since the radio feeds the amp and then the amp feeds the speakers. Possible it was for an aftermarket unit?
