Default 89 rx7 issue

i have an 89 rx7 non turbo. and the check engine light is not on all the time but when it is the rpm's go up normal but does not accelerate, when light is off it runs perfect. after the light comes on i shut the car down and start it again and it runs fine. any ideas email me or post back. thank you

sounds like it is trying to go into limp mode. i'm not real familiar with s5's, but the oil metering pump may be going out if it is doing that. i would look there first since it could destroy your engine if it goes out completely.

could it be the oil meter pump sensor and if so where would i find that sensor

i believe that the only sensor for the pump is in the ecu itself. the bad news behind this is that they omp usually causes problems with the ecu because of that fact.

Yep. Usually if the OMP on an S5 goes bad, it will take out the circuit for it on the PCM. If that is your problem, you have to replace both the OMP & computer. You can also remove the pump & ziptie it out of the way, install a blockoff plate & run premix. You have to leave the pump plugged in though, or it will trip a CEL.

i dont think the computer has gone bad can i just replace the pump and if so where is it located

Trust me, if the pump is bad, you will need a computer. The pump is located on the pass side of the engine on the front cover. You'll see an elec plug & 4 lines coming off it & going up the side of the engine.

even though it only does it every now and then the pump is completely bad?

It can, or it can't be the problem. Next time it acts up just look up the code.
