Default 80 RX7 Flasher flashes @ various speeds?

My flasher will flash at random speeds. I have check bulbs and took the flasher apart but all seemed OK. Sometime it will flash normally, but not often. It makes no difference, R or L side, or hazard.
If I could find a new one I would go that route, I have had no luck, new or used.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Check the ground wire in the taillight. They come loose sometimes. It could be loose sockets not grounding to the bulb or a poor ground under the dash.

Hixx, thanks, I will check the grounds. Have you ever heard of a "modulating" flasher, I have never known of this before now? (this has been going on for months now) This is not a daily driver so it has not been a big issue.
Thank again, Tom..................

If you don't find the trouble with the sockets/ wiring, it could be the flasher relay. It can be replaced by a universal model having the same socket configuration.
I haven't heard of the modulating rate type, but it's probably solid state and might not be compatible with your vintage of car.

I went back and checked grounds for front and rear lights and both were suspect, lite corrosion/not bare metal. Cleaned and verified good connection but no change. Changed rear bulbs and installed new, no change. Now the flash is more consistent, but now at the incorrect faster rate. I have taken the flasher out and inspected for the last time, it appearers fine, contacts clean, nothing broken.
Auto parts stores don't have any flashers with my plug pattern. I tried to use one with jumpers and it just blew a fuse.
Both front and rear are both flashing and I am going to leave it as for now.
Thanks for your input.
