Hi guys,

New here, so just let me know if you need more info or I do something silly.
I have a few issues with my mazda.

1) No tacho. Traced the wire as far as I can and found a pulse in it until it disappears into the mass of cables. Didn't have time to check it at the dash. Also passed small current to tachometer and the needle moves ok.

2) Recently my speedo has taken to giving false readings on the highway. Its ok around town but once I go over 90km/h it sometimes adds up to 40km/h to actual speed. If I stop then start again it is usually ok again until I reach 90~100km/h

3) Backfires when engine breaking. Only small backfires, barely audible over normal driving sounds.

4) Occasionaly my car decides it does not want to idle. Not just a low idle but no idle at all. Take your foot of gas while in neutral and it stops instantly. Usually a good flogging in 2nd stops this and it will idle again. Sometimes it goes away for months then comes back again.

5) Possibly related to 4) is a fuel smell from engine bay. Usually only when car is hot but my sence of smell is bad and its hard to tell. I only notice it when I park and get out in my garage.
