Default 1986 GXL Starting problem

i have a '86 GXL 5spd. ive owned it since 2006 and it runs great.... once you get it started. In the past two or so years, its a REAL pain to start, it cranks over and catches instantly, but bogs down and stalls, crank it once more and it will fire up again and you have to pump the gas to 3500-4000 to keep it running, once you keeping there for about a minute, it will idle. Lately ive been driving it to school and its getting worse and worse to start. before it would only pull this if it sat for a day or two, now a couple hours and it gives me a fuss. (i think one of the 3 owners before me had it ported, by the sound and high RPM power, its a N/A and i hit 145mph!) i dont know if this is the porting making rough to start or throttle body linkage. my first thought was the injectors dripping fuel into the engine, but my dad says thats out of the question, even though it smells like gas a few minutes into idle. any tips or help will be apretiated. thanks

First thing to do would be to get a compression check done on the engine. Low compression will make it hard to start & cause running issues.
