Default What type of oil to use...

Hey guys, just wanted to get some info. My protege 5 has 195,000km and it's burning oil. I haven't determined the amount because it's been variable, but I can say it hasn't been huge amounts to present major concern. I want to know, if it's not huge amounts, is it worth switching to high mileage oil, or stick with the regular oil?

Did you replace the PCV valve? recently? That could be the cause of the oil shrink.

Since I have owned the car the valve hasn't been replaced.

Why am I not surprised!
Well if you haven't change it, don't expect Mazda to ever change it without you telling them.
I will be shocked if they have 1 in stock at your local dealer.
Congrats on the mileage!

I wasn't aware of any PCV valve issues... but regardless if this can possible fix the problem, I will replace it. How much am I looking at with labor included? The part I found online for 20 bucks just by doing a quick search...

this is good info thanks gents.

BTW oil suck can often be caused by a blocked air filter - may be worth a look
