I haven't been on this forum in a long time. If you have replaced the wastegate actuator and it still does this, more than likely it is the crappy stock tune on our cars. They are pig rich and a lot of guys explain the same symptoms you just had on other forums. I even had the same issues before getting a piggyback until I can afford a full standalone to tune with. You are experiencing fuel cut and the car needs to be tuned.

Flooring it when engine is not properly warmed up is a no no.
I don't know if you waited for your engine/turbo to warm up first.

It has an internal blow-off valve to relieve the pressure when you come off boost.

A wastegate or boost controller can be added, but is not recommended. I am not a turbo expert, but according to some posts I have read, owners soemtimes do better using the factory set-up over trying aftermarket alternatives.
If you plan to go this route I suggest you find as many Mazda sites as you can and read up completely on the subject. In short, do your research or you may be doing more harm than good and/or actually losing power.

no need for a boost controller unless you have supporting mods otherwise you will be sitting on the side of the road with a hole in your block. The stock wastegate actuator has and is hit or miss. Some last for a while, others don't. Im still on my stock actuator going on 5 years now. But anyway, like I said, there is no need for an aftermarket boost controller until you have other supporting mods and more importantly something to tune with.
Also just for future reference, that "internal blow off valve" is called a bypass valve or diverter valve.

I bow to your greater knowledge of the subject Spiced MSP. And thank you for the correction/clarification.
I should have known that, but frankly I get a little confused with all the turbo related hardware out there.

no problem, that's what the forums are for. I spend a lot of my time on other mazda forums and Im not on this one as much because I don't see a lot of activity for the mazdaspeed protege over here. But, I'm slowly starting to get on this forum a little more now. You guys will probably start seeing more of me over here now..lol
