Default transaxle pump leaking

I just bought a 95' Protege that has some trans fluid leaking from the auto transaxle pump/cover, I would like to replace the gasket (310 in pic below) but I dont know if there is anything behind the cover that can spring out, etc.. Is this a simple gasket replacement like a valve cover (unbolt & take off) or will there beparts falling/flying out when the cover is removed? I found a pic that shows what looks like a spring behind it but I'm not sure, actually I dont know if its just a separate cover (510) or the entire pump (500) that comes off..any help would be appreciated..thanks

Or perhaps this cover is not the pump shown in 500 and just a left side round cover??

Nothing will spring out on you. There is a shaft that goes from the torque converter to the pump but its just splined on both ends. You can remove it or leave it.

thanks for the reply, i figured something had to spin the pump (671) but didnt know what surprises to expect when pulling that pump cover off. I hope there is enough clearance from the body to back that pump cover off the case without having to drop the entitre transaxle. The reason i say is that round splined cylinder that the shaft's spline mates with in the center of the pump housing looks like it could be at least 3" deep. i just snagged a service manual off fleabay so it should elaborate on everything. would you say this is about a 45 minute on vehichle job? thanks again!

It will if you put a jack under the crossmember and unbolt it then lower it with the jack.
