Hello,

I'm brand new to the forums and a brand new owner of a 2003 protege lx with 200k on it

My issue is when I hit the gas hard, I can hear the engine make like a ticking sound. Almost like a turbo spooling up but I have no turbo.

Anyone else have this issue?

 

Without driving the car myself, my first guess would be pinging/ knocking. Run a few tanks of higher octane fuel and re-asses.

 

My mistake. I.meant a whistling sound. There's no turbo. It only happens when I hit the gas hard. Do wheel bearings make this kind of noise?

 

My 323 1997 sounds different.. When I step on the gas pedal at second gear going to 3rd, I hear a rattling sound just under the floor at the passenger side (right). But this happens not all the time. What could be causing this?
