Default Strut recommendations for 2000 Protege wanted

So, I have a 2000 Protege ES. No mods or anything, I'm a cheapskate. But my struts in the front have started leaking, meaning in the next couple months or so it's likely they'll have to be replaced. Are there any affordable strut kits that any of you have experience with and would vouch for? If there's something particular that's a nice deal and good quality I can ask my mechanic to go looking for them.

Also, my graduate classes have me on the highway 2+ hours a day, 3 days a week. If there's a strut package that might soften the ride just a hair I'd consider that as well.

Anyway, there are a lot of hands-on owners in this forum so I thought I'd see what you guys knew. Poll the experts, right?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tokico makes a nice strut package, but they aren't cheap. Getting the factory struts is a safe bet. just replacing the worn struts will help the ride a bit...

I have a 2003 MP5 and i have tein struts on mine, they are a little bit more expensive buin my opinion they are worth the extra 20 buck. the give yo a nice smooth ride and they even feel a little rigid. When i threw my springs on they were the best things i could have ever bought to go along with them.

Darnit, I was kinda hoping this would be easy... Given the choice between KYB GR-2 and Monroe, they're both in about the same price range. Should I prefer one over the other?
