I need to replace the alternator on my 2000 Mazda Protege LX. How many bolts are in the alternator and where are they located? Are there any tricks to getting it out or putting it on? Thanks for any help!

i believe that you need to remove the alternator from underneath the car, but i don't know how many bolts it is. the alternator should be on the bottom of the motor close to the firewall.

 

hi i actually have the exact same car and replaced the alternator myself about 6 months ago.

it is located as said above at the back between the engine and firewall at a middle hieght.

the way i did it was to first remove all of the stuff (don't remember what was there) above the alternator. this was simple. then i removed the upper bolt mounting the alternator. next i removed the lower bolt which also acts as a swivel for the alternator. then it gets fun it took me nearly half an hour to remove the old alternator as space was very limited and then wedging the new one in was quite the task as the lower end of the alternator has to squeeze between two supports.
