Default protege mileage

looking to buy a 2000 protege with 125000 miles on it, what is the average engine life and transmission life of such a car provided that oil and other fluid was changed regularly, how long should i expect the car to operate without problems?

i have seen them go for 250k with proper treatment. actually, just recently there was a 2002 protege 5 on ebay that had 225k on it and it was still going strong. it just matters how the car is/was treated. my lil red wagon had 112k on it and i only changed the battery the whole time that i had it aside from routine maintenance.

i have a 1998 protege with almost 200kms on it, and obviously it doesnt run like new, but its still going, and i drive in terrible city traffic as well as highway on a daily basis so its earning its keep.
