protege air flow meter, getting around it?

im tryin to put an intake on my buddys 1992 protege but the air flow meter shuts the car off when it is unplugged or just taken off the intake tube

The flap type air flow meters have a fuel pump shutoff switch in them so when the flap is closed it shuts the pump off.
