Hi, my '96 protege has 2 problems:
1. It does'n mark the speed, it alwaysstays at 0MPH, about 2 weeks ago it did the same thong but the weird thing is that it start to work and the back to 0, but not any more.
2. The O/D off light it starting to blink.

Can anoyone explain me what is happening??

 

Sounds like your VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor has either failed or connector came off. The sensor is located on the backside of your transmission near where the axles come out of the transmission. Probably will not be able to see from above but only from under vehicle. This sensor takes the place of the older style speedometer cables and sends electronic vehicle speed signal directly to the instrument panel. The O/D light is flashing because the Engine Computer does not know how fast you are going either. PCM needs speed signal as well to determine gear shift points.

Locate the place where the right side axle exits the transmission. Should be right above and to the rear of that.

 

ok, i have the same problem, however my speed sensor works, it blinks, and shifts at 5k from 1,2, and then into 3rd, sugestions
