Default is it possible?? 2002 2.0 Protege down-swap to 2000 1.6 engine

Hello all,

I recently picked up a 2002 Protégé from a friend of mine in my Mazda club. It has 120k miles, 2.0 engine with a 5 speed. It blew a rod out the side of the block so the engine is toast.

I own two other Proteges, one is a 1999 and the other a 2000. They both have 1.6 engines in them and are both automatic.

I purchased a wrecked 2000 Protégé almost two years ago for body parts to fix my green 2000 as it had been side swiped, the 1.6 engine and transmission were both good in the donor car so I kept them both.

The 1999 I picked up afterwards had a bad transmission so I took the trans from the donor car and made it drive. So basically I've been mixing and matching parts.

My question is this; is it possible to do an engine down grade? I'd be going from a 2.0 engine down to a 1.6 engine. The car I have now has a manual transmission. The 1.6 engine was mounted with an automatic transmission in the donor car. I tried searching for info on this, but have had no luck as I doubt most people would go to a smaller engine, they usually want more power lol.

Basically, what I have is an entire long block motor that I know runs, along with the entire front sub frame and suspension. Has anybody done this swap? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
