Default Please someone shed some light about this light?

All my years of driving , and all the cars Ive owned, ive never seen a HOLD light. Its just above the washer light a yellow indicator light came on that spelled HOLD is it abbreviated for something? I just got this car less than a month ago(92 Mazda Protege)and i know nothing about it or a hold light.

anybody got an idea or have a similar experience before?

as always you guys are the best, and any info you provide goes along way and is most appreciated.

thanks

Silly me , i should know by now to do a search first, i did and i realize this could be complicated or simple. So i am adding this for a bit of help if it helps, the HOLD light came on while idling and stayed on, i shut the the car off and started it right back up and it went out and did not come back on. sound like any one of the number of things it could be specifically?

thanks again for reading and taking an interest.

if it is an automatic, that could be a tranny hold light. that keeps it in a lower gear for climbing.

hey thanks Wasoape281 for getting back to me so quick, so should i worry(?), when you said it keeps it in a low gear for climbing does it mean it will get stuck in the low gear(?), sorry i am a bit of a boob when it comes to these kinda things. Oh by the way, yes it is Automatic.

thanks a million
