Default Oil light

Hey. I have a 99 Protege LX with a 1.6 liter engine. The oil light comes on after a few minutes of driving. It usually goes out or dims as the revs go up. The oil level is always full. Any suggestions?

Default RE: Oil light

Given your description of the light I would be getting that oil pressure checked before you run the risk of destroying your engine. Oil light comes on when pressure drops or is very, very low. If it is going out when revving the engine then would probably rule out a bad sending unit. You could have a failing pump, stuck open pressure relief valve, or even a clogged oil pick up screen. Get the pressure checked first though with as little to no running of the engine.
