Default NASTY MISS 92 mazda protege

hello all my most valued experts. its been awile for me posting here , i hope all is well with everyone.

I have a situation with my protege. It has a slight slip in the trans between first and second gear sometimes second and third. anyway I postponed the problem slightly with the slipping with some treatment. however i drove it for a bit with the slip before i added the treatment. I now have a very nasty miss. it feels like a plug or a wire miss but the car gives quite a rumble while stopped in drive/gear but smooths out when i put in in netural. When I hit the gas the car does not feed gas properly its missing and it feels like the gas is blocked by air. It smooths out though at a higher speed which is really troubling me about the miss. I am hoping i did not kill the timing when I drove the car with the slip for a bit. also i had a slight problem with the pully that turns my belts for awile and supposedly my mechanic tightend this up for me but every now and then the car would give a jerk cause of the pully prob/sticking or slipping when turning belts. my belts never slipped from the pully though they would get stuck/stick.

I just wanted to stop by and see if i can get any pointers or a heads up on possible problem before i get into trouble shooting this by starting with plugs, wires, cap rotor maybe fuel filter? (by the way anybody know where the fuel filters are on these, and if a non-mechanic like myself could change one easily). Does anyone think this is the timing due to trans slip or anything else with the trans? or a sensor maybe ,cause of the smoothing out in netural?

a little goes along way for me , especially from you guys. I greatly appreciate that you guys are out there.

The fuel filter is on the firewall kinda under the intake.( i could be thinking of the 95 protege but look on the firewall) Pretty tough one to do but once you find it i am sure you can get it done fine. As for your drive belts slipping because of the crank pulley damper i assume. The damper has a rubber portion to it that can break loose and spin free. I can't think of any way to fix that without replacing it so maybe i misunderstood the description. The miss will not likely be the fuel filter but more likely a plugwire/plug/cap/rotor/coil issue imo. The transmission has an adjustment for the brake bands right beside the valvebody when you pull the trans pan. It is not hard to adjust but requires an inch pound torque wrench. Generally if a trans slips in 2nd and 4th the brake band is in need of adjustment as they are much like a brake shoe and wear down. The brake band stops the clutch drum so the next drum/gear can start. If it is loose the trans will slip.
