Ok guys, I have a 1994 B4000 4x4. I have a 6 inch lift and 33 inch boggers on it, and have a 4.0/auto. I use this truck for my work which mainly takes place off road. Today I was on a call and had to go about 80 miles away from base. About 30 miles into the trip, BOOM! tranny's gone. Looks like a total loss. I need this truck back up ASAP (wife's minivan won't cut it), so a friend of mine has offered me a 1988 EFI 5.0/AOD and all associated harnesses/modules from an F150 4x4. Any thoughts or suggestions out there? The "new" engine/trans have 67232 miles, mine has 171000. I've never done a swap like this, so I'm looking for advice. Thanks.

 

If you want it back up asap, I'd justfix the tranny. There are always issues with an EFI swap that you can't predict. I would think you could get a usable one from a local pick-n-pull pretty cheap as well.

 

Hey thanks for the advice. The more I thought about it, the more I agreed. I pulled the tranny out and apart, the first clutch pack is baked, the converter is baked, and the intermediate band is baked, but all else looks really good. I guess I got it shut down before too much heat built up. I'm doing a total rebuild, and including a transgo kit to reduce slippage more. It looks like the "trigger part" was the modulator. Sucked all the fluid out due to a bad diaphragm.

 

If you don't have one already, you may want to get an external trans fluid cooler as well. Keep your oil cool and the trans will last longer. You could monitor your trans temp as well to make sure you don't overheat it. (oil drain hole makes a convenient location for screwing in a trans temp sensor.)Boggers are a serious tire (very heavy) and would put a fair bit of load on your stock drivetrain.
