are there any differences betwen Mazda protege 2002 and mazda 626.

yes, there are a few. the 626 was geared to a little more towards the luxury audience while the protege was geared towards the sporty audience.

the protege was only made available in a 4 cylinder while the 626 came with either a 4 or 6 cylinder. the 626 was available with a premium sound system and leather while the protege didn't get that option until 2003. body wise, they are basically the same car, but the 626, IIRC, was a little heavier.

 

626 is also a midsize sedan vs. Protege is a compact sedan. And also 626 tends to have more problems than Protege both from what I heard and from my personal experience as well. I used to own a 626 myself in the 90s and had tons of problems with it when the car hit 100K, don't think the realiability of newer models had improved much since then, I can be wrong though.
