Loud "clunk" over speed bumps, curbs
Well, had my first issue. Just bought the '03 P5 about 5 weeks ago. Only 300 miles since take over (114K total). Rode really well on a recent trip to San Diego (about 200 miles). Then, on a few trips around town, I would hear the front end clunk when I drove up or down driveways while turning and over speed bumps. This started happening just a few days ago.
So off the the interwebs!! Man, lot's of posts about "clunks". Suspension, steering, drivetrain, all suspects. So up the jacks and stands, and down under I go.
Long story short, everything seemed tight, so I snugged everything I could reach. I did manage to turn the top nut on the passenger side strut a bit. While doing so I noticed one of the studs on the fwd brace had snapped off. It didn't look fresh. The other stud on the same side had broken off previously and had been replaced with a bolt/nut. So I popped the bracket off, drilled out the stud and replaced it with another bolt/nut combo.
While underneath, I noticed some small bolts missing that hold on the splash guard. Two had broken off. Since I had my drill out, drilled them out as well. Once came out clean and after chasing the threads, is good once more. The other is off, just a bit. Since it's on the end, I ran a zip tie through it for now.
So, up and down I go on my driveway at different speeds and turn radii, both left and right turns. Seems good for now. Will keep close eye (and ear) on it it see if it returns.
