Default Looking at buying a Mazdaspeed Protege,

Hello everyone!

I'm looking to get a Mazda as my next car and saw this Mazdaspeed protege in my area (Dallas, TX) for sale. It's listed pretty low at 3000. I went and looked at/drove it today and it seemed fine. There are just a few dubious details.

1 is that it has 2 CE codes. One is P2009 "intake manifold runner control circuit low bank 1a" and the other is P0171 "System too lean bank 1"
Neither of these seems to be a huge deal, especially since I do most mechanic work myself, but I wondered what everyone on here thought.

2. The current owner, who has only had it for 3 months or so, says it blows blue smoke when accelerating hard, I didn't see or hear anything unusual and it drove just fine. I realize that it could be a huge problem, but I thought it odd that it only happens under hard acceleration.

3. The last big thing is the mileage. He has it listed at 150,000. But my vin report is all sorts of wack. It's consistent from new to 2009. There it's listed at 88,000 and then in 2010 its at 81,000. From there it's consistent again until 2019 where its at 170,000 and then the next inspection is at 120,000 which is the most recent one. The screen in the dash is broken and I forgot to check with my obd2 reader. So it's likely this car has closer to 225,000 miles on it. Which at that point, yes the car is cheap, but if it's going to need a complete engine overhaul... I may not want in on that.

Would be a shame as it pretty fantastic cosmetically inside and out. The only other thing is the guy mentioned that he took it to a mechanic to see if the turbo was at fault and the mechanic said the turbo is fine. So there is that.

Anywho, just wondering what you guys think about this. I would want to be using it as a daily but it seems like it might be on its last legs.

Thanks!
