Default Just inherited a 2002 mazda protege dX, couple of Q's

Hey guys, I just had a couple of questions about my mazda protege. First of all I have the stock radio still inside the car and was wondering if it was worth it to find a cassette player and install it where the faceplate is (and if anyone knows where I can get one that would be awesome) or if its better to just buy a radio and install it? any feedback would be great since this is basically my first time removing and adding a new radio system.

P.s. I've been looking at these OBD2 systems that work with your android phone; sending info via a vertain app. I was wondering if anyone has anything like this and or if it is reliable enough to invest in?

I thought any car that was made after 1996 used OBD2?

Edit: I found this on http://www.actron.com/faq_detail.php?pid=16298

"Beginning in 1996, all passenger cars and light trucks (8,500 lbs. GVW or less) built for sale in the U.S. were required to be OBD II-compliant"

Look for a OBDII connector under the dash. I bet you find one.

As far as I'm aware only the Mazda 2, 3, 6 etc from 2002 onwards are OBDII. They have the Diagnostic plug under the dash v's the 323's/Protege's having a different plug beside the LHF strut tower.

I base this solely on my experience working for Mazda in New Zealand & Australia.

^^^^That must be the difference. The US required OBDII starting with the MY '96.

All U.S. built/sold cars after 1996 are federally required to have OBD2.

How can I be wrong? As I said I based my statement solely for cars in the Australian & New Zealand markets. Also the same is for the Japanese market too.
