Default Idle Problem

1995 ProtegeLX 1.5L
CEL code P0170

I had the CEL on and while on the car ran fine, but I went to Schucks and got the code and then cleared it. Now it has a rough idle. When stopped it wants to stall out. It has also been a bit lagged when first accelerating. Just wondering what to consider. Thoughts? Thanks

Default RE: Idle Problem

Here is a page of what the code means and a few things to look for. Look for any problems with the intake hoses. Has the fuel filter been replaced recently?

P0170 not specific for being too lean or too rich as it was first year of OBD2 codes for this model. Probably runs rougher now as they probably cleared the keep alive memory for the fuel trim which had been compensating for malfunction and now is reset to zero. Check carefully for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold gasket. Also consider having the operation of the Mass air flow sensor checked. If it is a manual trans then also look at the clutch switch signal for the PCM. Faulty switch can cause the intermittent stall or low idle condition when coming to a stop but not the hesitation. MAF would be more suspect for that.
