Default Front Brake Replacement Gotcha's

New to the forum and vehicle so please humor me.

I am going to assist a friend with a front pad and rotor replacement. I have not consulted any manuals yet, but did a little reading on here.

I have mostly replaced brakes on VW's and Land Rovers and I am hoping that will help with this project.

1) can you post any issues to watch for
2) basic description of the process would be great. It sounds like some people completely remove the calipers to insert the new pads. I am use to swinging the caliper up, suspending it, and press the pistons in (VW's are screw in type).
3) we will be replacing the rotors as well, I am assuming that there is a keeper screw to remove the rotor.
4) Suggestions on components. I was initially recommending a Hawk Ceramic Pad and a mid level Brembo (no slot or drill).

I appreciate the assistance in advance!

It’s fairly simple nothing complicated. On my 2000 ES. The caliper is held on with one bolt and then swings up but is just as easy to slide off. But since you are replacing the rotor too the bracket that the caliper is mounted to needs to come off as well. There weren’t any retaining screws on the rotor but the rotor must have been pressed on and was tight to the hub. There is a threaded hole in the rotor and a ¼ 20 bolt worked to pop the rotor free (the correct metric bolt might work better). None of the replacement rotors I have found were tight or had the hole.

Good Luck,
Walt
